What is the difference between oil transformers and dry transformers?

Explain the electrical transformer? What is an electrical transformer?


As we previously explained in the topic of electrical transformers, they raise or lower the electrical voltage and come in different sizes and types depending on use.


 It is a component or device consisting of two insulated coils. The first coil is called the primary coil, and the other is called the secondary coil. Between them is an iron matrix that often consists of thin sheets of iron with an insulating material between them.


Primary coil :


It is a group of turns of thin wire that is insulated with an insulating material called sparkle, which receives the electrical current and the number of turns of it is greater than the number of turns of the secondary coil.



Secondary coil:


It is also a group of turns of wire insulated with a varnish material, which is outside the current in the case of a step-down transformer, and its number of turns is much less than the number of turns of the primary coil.

What is the difference between oil transformers and dry transformers?


Dry transformers are transformers that are generally insulated with resin and may depend on natural cooling or cooling by cooling fans. There are no dry transformers for high voltages. They work with (medium voltage), for example distribution transformers, and in most cases they do not exceed 11KV. One thousand volts.

- But oil transformers have greater capacity and can operate at higher voltages.

- The efficiency of oil transformers is greater, but they require periodic maintenance, unlike dry ones.
